Saudi Arabia's Safaniya oilfield is the largest offshore oil field in the world. On Friday an oil platform in the Persian Gulf, owned by Saudi Arabia's state-run petroleum giant Aramco, was undergoing maintenance when it sank. Saudi Arabia's official news agency says the bodies of three foreign workers, two from India and one from Bangladesh, have been recovered from the sea. The remaining 24 workers have all been rescued and experienced only minor injuries. Official sources New Delhi said "Staff is being deployed by the Embassy to visit the place and meet the officials and offer all assistance." Aramco says the incident will be investigated and that it's not expected to affect overall production.
